Everything’s On The Table

Helping hand shakes another in an agreement

When we (the US Gov’t) talk about our nuclear negotiations with Iran, we always say “Everything’s on the table.” This has come to mean that, along with the smorgasbord of carrots and sticks, we are also just as willing to bomb them, if it comes to that. Many seem to delight in that notion. I’m wondering what else is on that “table”. Are love, forgiveness, understanding and peace also present and utilized during these negotiations? “Everything” means everything doesn’t it? Perhaps, if both parties looked for what’s MISSING from the table, this issue could be resolved to our mutual satisfaction.
